Having Fun being serious

The fine line between serious and fun

The process of defining what you want in life, looking at the way you tend to think about things and then putting into action a plan to ‘Clean up your act’ so to speak is often recommended to be done with a sense of fun. After all, it is our thoughts and feelings that determine what we get in our life isn’t it?

This is the main reason behind choosing to do something you love as your vocation in life. If you love doing it then your thoughts are more naturally in a state of love and therefore your feelings, which will then give rise to results of a like nature and then… Yeah I could go on, but I think that’s pretty clear.

However, fun is not something that we can possibly have in every single moment. Some things are serious and they have to be taken seriously. Some things need to be taken seriously in order to get done because if they are approached in a jovial way then they may take longer than is necessary for them to be dealt with, but then how do you approach those things without ‘bringing down’ your mood and taking you off track from your goals?

Forget it. It’ll make no difference to that as long as you remain awake to the fact that we live in a world where stuff just needs to be done sometimes that isn’t what you love or that feels like a distraction. Look I hate the washing up right. I really hate it and I’m not afraid to say it!

I think I mentioned the washing up before on this blog. This is the point. You create the fun. For me, doing the chores is not fun, but what I will eventually be doing after the chores are done will be, so the fun part of the chores will be finishing them! I don’t kid myself that I can make the actual act of doing the chores fun. I instead focus on how good it’ll be when their done.

In any event taking things seriously doesn’t mean not having any fun. Imagine a professional football team. They take the game very seriously, but those guys are having fun. They love playing football. They are in their element, doing what they do best, so actually there is room for having fun and taking life seriously in the same moment. It’s just about how you perceive ‘Serious’.

Waffling over.
