It is Not a Target
Today I revisited an old post of mine entitled "You Are Success", which prompted me to write some more about it.
Success is not something to be achieved, but something to live by, something to experience. If you view success as something to aim for then you are viewing it as something that you don’t have or requires working towards.
When approached correctly, success comes and finds you. It will find you when you are ready for it. In fact you may not even notice it when it first introduces itself to you, so how then do you experience success?
If you’ve read the above mentioned post, then you’ll know that it explains that You Are Success. Once you get to know truly who you are and what makes you the person you are, including why it is you choose to do what you do, then you are successful. That need not require any hard work to discover. You simply decide the way you want to conduct your life out of knowing what it is that makes you happy and fulfilled. Oh and of service and value to those around you too.
For example the more I let go of the notion of how much money I need to make today and instead, keep in my mind as a priority, the intention to be of service to somebody then I find that the rest takes care of itself. Not always on the same day, it takes some time to come around, but the point is that it has got me focused on contributing to life rather than just setting out to take what I can out of it.
The more you contribute, the more there is for "Life" to give you. You stop needing to grab at anything. I feel sorry for people who complain that they are poor, when they actually have quite a lot in life. Those who have wealth that they can’t even appreciate themselves really are poor! That’s the sorry fact and they have not yet come to terms with or discovered who they are. They are focused only on things outside of themselves, which inevitably will never bring the meaning and purpose in life that they miss.
I also feel sorry for those who live by the mantra "What’s in it for me?". Whilst this approach might work in the short term in getting what you want, the well soon runs dry and is it any surprise that the question itself brings about your association with other people with the same mantra? In that case, if those are the only people you meet, then none of you are ever going to help each other out are you.
Life is success, it is not a business transaction. If you can say to yourself today that you enjoy your life and really mean it, without having any thoughts about what brings you down, then you are successful and you don’t have to be successful every day for the rest of your life to qualify as being a success. You have to start again every day by choosing it.
In my opinion there are a lot of people who are rich and have a lifestyle that many would envy, but they are not successful. Something to remember the next time you find it difficult to raise a smile. Just raise that smile and there’s your glimmer of success!
