Cause and Effect: A Practical Look
One way to move in the right direction for your success and happiness is to enjoy the process, as I discussed in my last post The Thrill of the Chase. There is one point worth mentioning too that it is not always easy to "make" yourself enjoy the process if you feel a pressing need for the result of what it is you are doing.
For example, you may need to make some money to pay an urgent bill and let’s say that your solution is to get a job (or a second job) to cover the expense. Here is the part that may cause many to come unstuck:
You need a new job today, so you look in the paper, pick up the phone or send out some emails. How often is it that you will then have a new job the same day, or even the same week? Let alone the first pay check. This highlights the reality of cause and effect and why it is crucial to put the very best of yourself into the process, in terms of your feelings and your thoughts of a desired outcome.
What you do today will most likely not bring any obvious results today. The reality is that you set up a cause for what will transpire in the future, maybe tomorrow, maybe next week, maybe next year. This is the purpose of building relationships with people who may then call you in the future to ask of your services or make you an offer.
This has happened to me on countless occasions and the times when successful outcomes, like a phone call offering me work or a paying client came about because of the action I took weeks or even months before (it doesn’t have to take that long, but I have been rather a slow manifester in the past!). That action was contacting somebody in my field of work, meeting with them and in some cases providing some kind of help or assistance, which didn’t pay me anything, but allowed me to do something that I enjoy (see the connection?) and having that person see the benefit of what I can do for them.
I’m sure you’ve heard the term "Paying it Forward". It’s perfectly OK to pay it forward knowing that you’re building foundations for your own success, just make sure you feel good about doing it and forget about when your payback will come.
Easy Peasy! Well it should be. Just put yourself forward and enjoy it!
