Do You Even Have One?
If you read last week’s article, you may have thought about the question I asked, namely what is your relationship with food?
This is a big question, because when I was first asked this question I didn’t realize that I even had a relationship with food. It sounded pretty outrageous to me. However with a little thought it seems outrageous to never even give any thought to something that is fundamentally part of our existence.
The most thought people generally give to food is deciding what to eat, but how many times do people eat something without even thinking about it, just a habitual act without any conscious choice to eat that particular food. Also, how often do people eat something and never think to ask what’s in it or what is added to it? Too many based on the evidence we see with so many people suffering from poor health.
EVERYBODY has a relationship with food, even if that relationship is a non-questioning, taken for granted or "done on autopilot" relationship. I spent some time with an amazing macrobiotic chef a few years ago. He told me that because eating is so fundamental to life, mealtimes should be the most important times of the day. Rather than working for 10 hours, eating a processed sandwich for lunch, without even taking a break and then eating a quick and convenient takeaway on the way home, we should be planning our day around the time we need for preparing and eating dinner.
The relationship we have with food is a healthy one if we take it all as a whole. Food isn’t just eaten, but it is prepared, it grows especially to give us life. There is a reason for all these different fruits, vegetables, spices and herbs. Each one has a purpose, a strength and the power to protect our bodies and minds from damage and to maintain our health. We are blessed with a naturally developed system all around us that is there to energize us, so we may grow in personal power, develop our awareness and increase our level of consciousness.
We are here to evolve, not just to exist and we have been given everything we need to succeed, so please, think about your relationship with food and develop a healthy one if it isn’t already. What you eat is the key to your true freedom of your mind and spirit.
